ഏറെ വിശേഷങ്ങള്‍ പറയാനുള്ള മാവ് ഇനമാണ് കാലപ്പാടി. പേരു കേള്‍ക്കുമ്പോള്‍ തന്നെ ഒരു തമിഴ് ടച്ച് തോന്നുന്നില്ലേ…? സംഗതി സത്യമാണ് തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടുകാരനാണ് കക്ഷി. തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടില്‍ കേരള അതിര്‍ത്തിയോട് ചേര്‍ന്നുള്ള ബോധിനായ്ക്കന്നൂരാണ് കാലപ്പാടി മാമ്പഴത്തിന്റെ ജന്മനാട്. വീട്ട്മുറ്റത്ത് വളര്‍ത്താന്‍ ഏറ്റവും അനുയോജ്യമായ മാമ്പഴം ഇതാണ്.
ഉയരം കുറവ്,
പടര്‍ന്നു പന്തലിക്കും
അധികം ഉയരത്തില്‍ വളരാതെ പടര്‍ന്നു പന്തലിച്ചാണ് ഈയിനം മാവ് വളരുക. ഇതിനാല്‍ വീട്ട് മുറ്റത്തും ഡ്രമ്മിലും വലിയ ചാക്കിലുമെല്ലാം നടാം. ഡ്രമ്മിലൊക്കെ നല്ല വിളവ് തരും. എല്ലാ വര്‍ഷവും കൃത്യമായി കായ്ക്കുന്ന സ്വഭാവമാണ് കാലപ്പാടിക്കുള്ളത്. നല്ല കുലകളായി ധാരാളം മാങ്ങയുണ്ടാകും. ഇവ കായ്ച്ചു നില്‍ക്കുന്നതു കാണാന്‍ തന്നെ പ്രത്യേക ഭംഗിയാണ്.
സുഗന്ധവും രുചിയും
നല്ല രുചിയും സുഗന്ധവുമാണ് കാലപ്പാടിയുടെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകത. പച്ച നിറത്തിലാണ് തൊലിയുണ്ടാകുക. അകത്തെ കാമ്പ് നല്ല മഞ്ഞ നിറവും. പൊടിയുള്ള തരത്തിലാണ് കാമ്പ്. ഇതിനാല്‍ മറ്റു വിഭവങ്ങള്‍ തയാറാക്കാനുമേറെ അനുയോജ്യമാണ്. അഞ്ചു മുതല്‍ ഏഴ് മാങ്ങകള്‍ ചേര്‍ന്നാല്‍ ഒരു കിലോയാകും. മാര്‍ച്ച് മുതല്‍ ജൂണ്‍ വരെയാണ് സീസണ്‍.
മുറ്റത്ത് നടാം
വീട്ട്മുറ്റത്ത് തണലിനും ഭംഗിക്കും നടാന്‍ ഏറെ അനുയോജ്യമാണ് കാലപ്പാടി. വലിയ ഉയരം വയ്ക്കാതെ പടര്‍ന്നു പന്തലിച്ചു വളരുന്നതിനാല്‍ തണലും ഭംഗിയും ഉറപ്പാണ്. കൂടെ നല്ല മധുരമുള്ള മാമ്പഴങ്ങളും ലഭിക്കും. ഡ്രമ്മിലാക്കി ടെറസില്‍ വരെ ഈയിനം വളര്‍ത്തുന്നവരുണ്ട്. സൂര്യപ്രകാശം കുറച്ചാണെങ്കിലും വളര്‍ച്ചയ്ക്കത് തടസമാകാറില്ല. മാമ്പഴത്തിന് പുറത്തൊരു വെള്ള പൊടിപോലെയുള്ള ആവരണവും ഈയിനത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്. കായീച്ച പോലുള്ള കീടങ്ങള്‍ ഇതു കാരണം പ്രദേശത്തേക്ക് അടുക്കില്ല.
